2009 Pam Espalin Memorial Holiday Food & Toy Drive
Every year, DCS runs the Pam Espalin Memorial Food and Toy Drive. During the holidays, Pam started a food drive to assist Deaf families in need. Please help us continue Pam’s tradition. We would appreciate any monetary donations or donations of non-perishable food items and toys. Toys and gifts are given anonymously so no one knows who Santa is, but we’ve had the privilege of seeing their parents come to DCS with their children to retrieve the goodies. What a great feeling--the kids' eyes shone with joy and they couldn't wait to open their presents.
For those of you who may not know, Pam Espalin was our beloved long-time receptionist and advocate, who was with DCS for 15 years. She died suddenly of a stroke in 2008. Every year she organized the food and toy drive around Thanksgiving and Christmas. We are honoring Pam's memory by continuing this wonderful program. Food donations are also greatly appreciated. Many Deaf families are suffering from layoffs and cutbacks this year and our list of needy recipients has increased. How can you contribute? You can either stop by DCS or email us for further information at info@dcsofsd.org. Thanks for your support!
If you decide to make a donation you will receive the following:
$ 5.00 - Sincere Appreciation
$ 10.00 - Choice of item from vending machine in lobby
$ 20.00 - Soda from lobby vending machine once a week for 4 weeks
$ 50.00 - Coffee from favorite coffee house (any size, any kind)
$100.00 - Gourmet homemade lunch with Leslie (a week day in March of 2010, exact date to be announced)
What You Can Do:
- Donate toys and gifts, new, not gift wrapped, for toddlers, boys, girls, teenagers, and parents (you can choose)
- Donate non-perishable food items in cans and boxes, new, unopened
- Write a check to DCS for the Pam Espalin Memorial Food and Toy Drive (tell us if you want us to buy food, toys, or both)
- Adopt-a-family—take a list of toys and clothing and go shopping for a family (we can gift-wrap for you!). Play Santa and experience the joy of giving!
Bless you for helping needy folks in the Deaf community. You have our heartfelt gratitude for making the holidays memorable for families who might go without if it were not for your generosity.
