By now, some of you may be receiving information in the mail regarding the Census. What is the Census? The Census is mandated by the constitution and done by the U. S. Census Bureau. It is carried out in all fifty states and five U. S. territories: Puerto Rico, Guam, Virgin Islands, Mariana Islands, and American Samoa, with the goal of accounting for all people living in these regions. The 2020 Census will mark the 24th time that the U. S. has been conduction since beginning in 1790.

Why do we Census? By calculating how many people we have and where, the government can make informed decisions as to where to provide funding or services such as hospitals, fire departments, police stations, schools, libraries, road repairs, even here DCS and so on. It also determines the number of seats we have in the U. S. House of Representatives.

Who takes the Census? The U. S. Census includes everyone on U. S. Territory, native-born citizens, and immigrants alike. The government is only counting the number of people to provide proper services, like here at DCS! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask us at DCS for advice.
