GOVERNOR NEWSOM: Today will focus on two topics: vaccines with an update about Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson (signed JJ) with more information on  JJ.  Will also focus on fires and what is our plan about how to deal with fires in California.

[WHITE TEXT: Vaccines]

[FULL SCREEN TO TOP LEFT CORNER IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The Moderna’s logo is on top. It is the word “moderna” in red and lowercase. A broken blue line underlines the word. Underneath the Moderna logo is the Pfizer logo, which is a blue oval with the word “Pfizer” in white. The “f” in Pfizer is tall and long. To the right of both logos is a friendly looking smiley face emoji with two thumbs up.]

[WHITE TEXT: FIRES]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: First about the vaccines.  Big news! Johnson & Johnson vaccine have been stopped.  We will no longer give our JJ.  This is because many people have had severe allergic reaction.  But don’t worry. We still have Pfizer and Moderna which we have plenty of those.  Remember vaccines are safe, don’t wait or say that you don’t need the vaccine.  You need to get a vaccine because when everyone gets their vaccine then California businesses, stores, schools, and more can open again.

[WHITE TEXT: California has lowest COVID-19 cases in US]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: Good news! We are doing good, California has the smallest number of people with COVID in the whole US! Very small number of people!  Other states in the US have more than we do here in California.  That is great!   Another reason why getting the vaccine is so important!

[WHITE TEXT: FIRES]

[FULL SCREEN TO TOP LEFT CORNER IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A large pine forest is fully ablaze. The black trees are silhouetted against the bright orange and yellow flames, which rise high above the trees.]

[FULL SCREEN TO TOP LEFT CORNER IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The state of California in white, outlined in black, has several fire cliparts scattered throughout the state. A thin red “X” is on top.]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: An update on the fire season in California.  We need to be ready before the fire season starts.   Remember In 2018 we had the biggest worst fires in California in history. We don’t want that to happen again. Last year we had more than 9,000 fires. Do we want again 9,000 fires again in 2021? NO!   We have to have a prevention plan.

[WHITE TEXT: 2018 OVER 9,000 FIRES IN CA]

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A group of firefighters wearing helmets, long sleeved yellow shirts, backpacks and pants use shovels to dig and make an approximately three feet wide parameter break in the earth. Grass is on both sides and a dense forest behind the firefighters.]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: How can we prevent these fires from happening.  Here is one example.  Picture a forest area with trees and bushes.  Firefighters and prisoners will work digging holes around areas that easily catch on fire to prevent it from happening.  The holes will keep the fire from spreading farther.  That is one plan.   Remember, areas of California is different. We don’t want to wait until the fire starts and gets very big, out of control and try to put it out. We want to work now to stop the fires before they start.  Dig, work hard, and find ways to not have big fires in California.

[FULL SCREEN TO TOP LEFT CORNER IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A beautiful natural scene including blue skies, mountains with very little snow, a green-blue lake with trees and grass surrounding the lake.]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: Keep in mind, some areas are flat, mountains, valleys, some near water, lake, ocean, some dry, some cold, some hot. Fire prevention will not be the same all over.  Will be different based on each area and what it needs.  We must have a plan to work to prevent fires in different areas in different ways. With fire prevention all over the state means fewer fires and it means that your homes are safe, your businesses/restaurants are safe, your families are safe, your schools are safe. That is what we want to be ready, to have a plan, to keep everyone safe.

[FULL SCREEN TO TOP LEFT CORNER IMAGE DESCRIPTION: This image has four sections. The top section shows soapy hands with the word “Wash” in orange. Under that, a brown haired person wearing a blue mask with the word “Cover” in blue. Under that, an unlabeled blue spray bottle with the word “Clean” in orange. At the bottom, a woman standing with an arrow next to the words “6 Feet” in blue.]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: I have said this many many times. This is important. If you want California to open, if you want to socialize again and hug your family and friends and go out when you want/where you want? Then you need to keep your mask, stay 6 feet apart, wash your hands, and make an appointment to get your vaccine.  Thank you!
