DEAF INTERPRETER: Hello. My name is Rosemary and this video is a summary of key points from Governor Newsom press conferences from today.

WHITE TEXT: November 29, 14,000+ Covid-19 cases

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: As of yesterday, November 29, California has over 14,000 COVID-19 positive cases. States with the highest number of COVID-19 cases are: North Dakota, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Minnesota.

[WHITE TEXT: North Dakota, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota.]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: CA is way down the list at #39. CA is ranked 39 of all 50 states.

WHITE TEXT: California 39th place

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: Still need to be careful because numbers are going up.

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Abstract male health care worker with faceshield and mask in a white gown with blue gloves inserting a nasal swab in the nose of an abstract female patient with long dark hair. They are standing in front of a purple background]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM:  Please take nose/mouth swab tests because we need to know who has the virus and who doesn’t.  Many testing sites everywhere to make it easy for you.  Even if you feel fine, please go take the test. Often people take the test and then become very sick as the days go by and then have to go to the hospital for COVID-19 two weeks later.  Why? People are not wearing masks, are socializing, staying out late, not isolating, and because of that, in the next one month we will see our numbers double or triple.

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A red arrow curving dramatically upwards along with a blue bar graph, indicating increasing numbers. On each bar is a clipart of a man coughing. Coronavirus cells and the coughing man get bigger and bigger as the graph rises.]

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: An overcrowded hospital room. There is a sick person in each bed and some of the beds have plastic around it. Nurses in full protective gear are walking around and tending to the patients.]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: Hospitals are almost full. ICU for those who need more care and breathing machines are getting full too.  If people keep not wearing masks and keep socializing we will see hospitals completely full and ICUs completely full.  This means that if you get sick, you can’t get medical care.

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Business street with tall buildings on both sides with the streets completely empty because of the shelter-in-place order]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: AND more importantly, if the numbers go way up, hospitals are full, ICU is full, me, as governor, will have to order stay at home for everyone in CA to force our numbers down.  Why? You are not listening to me. You are not following the rules. You keep socializing when I told you not to. Wear your masks and stay home.  I have told you again and again, we change the rules, try to teach you how to stay safe and you still don’t listen. If you keep not listening then we will close CA down again.

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Four rows of color bars. The top row is purple with images of skull bones and open hands gesturing “stop” [WHITE TEXT: 51 COUNTIES]. The second row is red with exclamation points (!) and open hands gesturing “stop” [WHITE TEXT: 6 COUNTIES]. The third row is orange with thumbs up signs exclamation points [WHITE TEXT 1 COUNTY]. The fourth row is yellow with happy faces and thumbs up signs.[WHITE TEXT: 0]

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION:  The state of California with each of its 58 counties assigned a color. Most of the counties are purple. Six are red and one is orange]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: Right now in our four color tiers: 51 counties are purple; 6 counties are red; 1 county is orange; and no counties are yellow.  51 are purple!  The number of counties in purple keep going up and up.  That is bad. Please follow the rules!

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Abstract image of a line of doctors/nurses standing next to each other in white coats or scrubs holding a clipboard and/or stethoscope around their neck]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: I am very worried about our hospitals and our doctors and nurses and wonder if we will have enough to take care of you. We are checking the numbers everyday.  Our doctors and nurses are tired from working so hard, for hours and hours and days and days.  We want to be ready for you.

[IMAGE DESCRIPTIONS: surgical mask, Abstract image of a line of doctors/nurses standing next to each other in white coats or scrubs holding a clipboard and/or stethoscope around their neck, patient with dark brown hair in a green hospital gown laying in hospital bed with oxygen mask covering nose/mouth, science lab with a person in a white gown and blue gloves looking at something closely]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: CA has more masks, more doctors and nurses coming in, more breathing machines, and we have our labs here in CA to do testing fast!

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: inside a gym, a row of empty hospital beds with white sheets [WHITE TEXT: 2,000+ more beds]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: We have 11 extra spaces to add about 2,000 more hospital beds.

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Inside an empty bar with dim and bright neon lights, inside an empty restaurant with brown tables and brown chairs, inside a hair salon with a woman wearing a black mask in a salon chair and another woman with a black mask standing behind the chair holding a hair dryer]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: I am also thinking about our businesses in CA both big and small businesses.  For big businesses like bars, restaurants, hair salons, and others, we want to give them more help so they can stay open and not close-down.  For small businesses we want to give them more help so they can stay open and not close-down too.  Me, as governor, trying to be very flexible, understanding, and offer as much help as we can.  For businesses to stay open we need to all be careful, follow the guidelines, and stay safe.

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Statue of Liberty on a US Government check with red text: IMPORTANT TAX INFORMATION ENCLOSED]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: It has been 248 days since our last check from US government.  We need that money again soon.

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Vaccine in hands of a person with blue latex gloves [WHITE TEXT: 300,000+ Ready in mid-December]

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: In about 2 weeks from now, we will have over 300,000 vaccines ready here in CA. Vaccines are needed here and around the world.  Those who get the vaccine have to go back again in 3 weeks for a 2nd vaccine.  We will let you know who will get the vaccine first, second, third, and so on.

GOVERNOR NEWSOM: For more information go to www.covid19.ca.gov.  If you want the numbers down, if you want hospital beds open for you, if you want businesses and jobs to keep going, then you need to stay home.  If you have to go outside, wear a mask (cover chin and mouth), wash your hands, stay 6 feet apart and do NOT socialize with people that do not live in your home.  Thank you.
